Evan and Veronica

Reposted here since TikTok flagged it for community violations:

Evan watches Veronica as she is about to walk away. He immediately takes her by the wrist and pins her against the wall. One arm blocking her escape while the other firmly on her rounded hip. He groans softly. She’s so close, he could smell her scent: vanilla and pistachios, with a hint of a flower he couldn’t name. Sweet and playful, disarming, like her personality. Veronica is flustered for a moment, looks up at Evan. Her cheeks are noticeably red.

Evan’s face was uncharacteristically stoic as he leaned in slowly “You don’t get to leave me.” he whispered to her in his deep, seductive tone. His heartbeat was hammering in his ears. It was now or never. Either he let his intentions be known or forever lose her to fate.

Veronica was stunned. She had come to the conclusion that Evan had chosen his fear of the unknown versus a future with her. She knew of his responsibilities, his imagine he needed to protect, and if this were to happen, the life he would have to uproot, but she wasn’t prepared for it to happen overnight and she was terrified, too. She wanted to see if there was anything solid between them before considering what those next phases would be, because she knew, that her choices would be just as irreversible, and she’d be willingly walking into a field of landmines, if she proceeded.

“What do you mean? You already made your choice and I wasn’t it. I graciously moved out of the way so you could retain your status quo. What more do you want from me?” Tears started to well up in her eyes as she fought to keep from crying.

Evan closed his eyes, took a deep breath to calm himself down. “Why couldn’t you give me time to work this out?” he said with gritted teeth, low and dangerous.

Veronica searched his eyes, starting to understand. He had already planning for a future she wasn’t even certain about. “Because I wasn’t sure if I could trust you with my heart. Let me guess, you were planning for a future before even finding out if we actually had any actual chemistry.”

Evan faltered momentarily. Veronica didn’t know he had been watching her for close to a year. At first it was just fascination. He knew she was unobtainable, so it was his quiet one sided crush, but when he learned the truth, it was like a dam that wouldn’t shut. Countless nights he fought his own desires. Trying to bury himself in work, other women, and anything he could try to get her out of his head, only to snap back like a rubber band and thoughts of her would rebound back to him harder.

And when he realized that she wanted him too, not only wanted him, but saw a future with him, and wanted him carnally, the tension in his control cracked. But she was actively letting him go, and her finally speaking her truth was her way to release and finally close the chapter. He couldn’t let that happen, wouldn’t let that happen. Not after knowing the truth she’d kept to herself for over a year.

This was the first time he had been so close to her. He could feel the warm of her body, and he couldn’t help but to gaze at her lips. The ones he had imagined time and time again, smiling at him, kissing him, calling out his name in ecstasy. He shook his head momentarily as he attempted to regain his composure.

“You belong to me, Veronica. And chemistry? You can’t tell me you don’t feel it.” He leaned in closer, whispering “You can lie to yourself, but your body is telling me different.” He whispered into her ear that was already blushing pink “I can see it all over your face, you know it’s there.” He breathed in her scent fully, getting hard being so close to her. He was no longer afraid to show it as his body was pressed up against hers. He knew this was his final chance. If he was going to lose her, he’d make sure he would have no regrets.

Her breathing hitched. She could smell the warm scent of wood and musk off his body. The feeling of his growing arousal had made her face blush a vivid pink. He was right, there was no doubting their chemistry at this point. The air around them felt electric as she was fought hard not to pull him in, devouring him into an all consuming kiss. She closed her eyes to reorient herself.

“I still don’t know if I can trust you. I wanted to get to know you first. See if we could get along. If there was enough there. There’s a lot at stake for the both of us.”

Evan pulled back. He thought he was being careful in his planning, the one moving slow and methodically, but he didn’t realize she was farther back in this development than he was. Here he was thinking about the repercussions of having to uproot his life for this connection while she was wondering if they’d even get along in person. The thought was sobering, but it didn’t stop his resolve. He knew he wanted Veronica and as much as he hated to do things on the fly, would do whatever he needed to, within reason, to secure her.

“I’ll make the effort then. Until you feel you can trust me. I’m not walking away, Veronica.”

In a quick move that stunned Evan, Veronica managed to turn the tables and not only pin Evan to the wall, but get him on his knees. Now he was looking up at her. Her chest was heaving as she pressed over him, her thighs open, straddled him, practically sitting on his lap. He could feel the heat between them and knew she was equally aroused.

“Then no more ambiguity. No more mind games. No more M.I.A. with communication. I’m not going to invest my time with someone who’s going to be here one day and gone tomorrow.”

He nodded, swallowing, willing to meet her unusually reasonable demands.

“…and we build a friendship and see if there’s really a solid foundation we can build on before we move further. Nobody uproots shit until we see if this is really feasible. After that, then we’ll talk.”

Now it was his turn to blink. That was rather reasonable, unlike many of his prior relationships.

She wasn’t caught up in the whirlwind, she was grounded, stable, no bullshit. Evan’s apprehension melted as his desire amplified. There was no question now, she had to be his.

“Then, if this is what we think it is…” she leaned in close enough for Evan to almost taste the sweetness of her breath “…you’ll belong to me as much as I belong to you. You’ll be claimed as mine, you get that Evan? I’m a reasonable woman but once I’ve chosen you, there’s no more hiding, no trying to get me jealous because I won’t stand for it. I won’t ask you to blow up your career. I’ll never ask you to chose your familial responsibility over me. I won’t ask you to do anything unreasonable. If you want my vulnerability, you’re going to need to be vulnerable yourself. No upper hand bullshit. And if big changes need to happen, we both work on them together. But don’t you dare play me. Those are my terms.”

‘Claimed’ he recalls in his head. ‘She said she claimed me as hers.’ He begins to smile as a growing warmth spreads in his chest.

But then the word ‘vulnerable’ hit him. He knew what this meant. Although he was adamant to not be weak, it was his fear of vulnerability that pushed him into this corner and as much as he didn’t want to agree, she was right. He couldn’t demand from her what he wasn’t willing to give.

“So what are we then?” Evan asks.

“Friends for now, until my nervous system feels I can trust you.”

Evan was a little disappointed, but there was a path there, and that’s all he needed. He was just happy he was able to save this in time before she finally shut the door on the possibility of them. The thought of any man taking his spot caused him countless nights of frustration when she would post her attempts to move on. Although he hated it, he knew he had no right to stop her since he had never made his intentions known. She had convinced herself that he felt nothing, that he didn’t want her, and she had to let go and move on, and he wasn’t having it. He wasn’t going to allow any man to take the spot that he’d long since claimed was rightfully his.

Seeing her so close, he pulled Veronica from her waist to sit on his lap and nuzzled into her hair. He wasn’t letting this opportunity get away to make her blush as he whispered into her ear “I’ll make sure you’ll never want to leave me. I’ll make any man that tries to come near you pale in comparison.” Evan felt her pulse race and knew this was what he wanted. He wasn’t going to squander this chance. Never again.
